Course Overview

Throw pillows are an excellent way to use handwoven fabric as an applied textile! In the first three days of class, students will dress floor looms and weave their own colorful wool fabric for two 18"x18” pillow faces. We’ll use simple patterns to explore color play and texture. The final day is dedicated to sewing a simple envelope pillow, which is a great project to practice basic sewing skills. Each student will walk away with two finished pillowcases and confidence in sewing with handwoven fabric.

A few pillow forms will be provided by the instructor for trying out the pillowcases, but students are responsible for finding their own forms for their finished pillows.

Experience in dressing a floor loom is helpful for this class, but beginners are welcome. This course is open to students ages 16+.

Physical ability notes: Ability to thread a needle, a steady hand, and good eyesight are needed for this class.
