Handsewn Leather Shoulder Bag: Online Course
Course Overview
Here it is—a perfect shoulder bag for everyday errands! This classic yet funky crossbody bag is where traditional saddle-making techniques meet contemporary styling. In this online make-a-long format class, you'll meet with fellow students and instructor Beth Down each week for four weeks as you will learn how to craft your own unique bag. Students will receive materials by mail ahead of time, including the leather pieces with holes pre-pounded for sewing and hardware already attached (these steps require specialized tools). During the live online sessions, you'll learn how to hand-sew vegetable tanned cowhide with a two-needle saddle stitch, along with wet-molding, surface design and leather care. You'll have some work to do on your bag in between each class session, and will learn new steps each week.. With a little love this bag will last many years, developing a rich patina as it lives its life with you.
This online class will be conducted via Zoom. You will receive the meeting link when you register.
Note: Students must have good hand dexterity for hand sewing.
