Handles & Candles: Spindle Turning

Course Overview

Stefan Nordgaard, Featured Guest Instructor, offers this course on spindle turning also referred to as turning between centers. Working with dry birch, students will explore a variety of simple projects beginning with tool handles and moving on toward more elaborate candlesticks or vases. Stefan is also an accomplished carver and will also teach surface design and layout, including embellishment carving and detail work on turned spindles. Students will go home with the knowledge of how to put a new wooden handle on most any tool and a beautiful candle stick for the dining room table.
