Leatherwork

Hand-Sewn Leather Laptop Case and Wallet

Course Overview

Learn the foundational skills of hand-sewn leatherwork while making a beautiful laptop case and simple wallet. In this course, students will use natural, vegetable-tanned cowhide for their cases, exploring surface decoration, hardware installation, sewing with a traditional 2-needle saddle stitch, and leather care. The result will be two stylish and durable cases to last for years. The materials fee covers basic materials used during class; if time allows, students may add an optional shoulder strap to their laptop cases for an additional $20 (to be paid to the instructor during class).

Physical Ability/Skills Needed: This process requires steady hands with reasonable strength and stamina, and enough shoulder strength to hit tools hard with a mallet.
