Hand-Forged "Using" Knife

Course Overview

Make a custom knife designed for everyday use! We will begin by hand-forging a blade of high-carbon steel and then hand-finish the blade with files, sandpaper, and stones. Students will forge their guard, bolster and pommel fittings. The knife blade will be heat treated by annealing, hardening, and tempering. The finished knife will hold an edge while being tough enough to withstand use. Students are encouraged to bring their own handle material, though the instructor will have ample amounts available of antler or hardwood available. This class is appropriate for beginning and intermediate smiths.
