From Checkerwork to Hex: Black Ash Baskets with a Twist
Instructor:
April Stone
Course Overview
In this course, students will be working with locally harvested and hand processed, pre-dried black ash splint to recreate an old style East Coast basket incorporating a plain, checkerwork base with hex sides. This basket, originally intended as a sieve or colander, will measure approximately 8” x 8” x 6” upon completion and will complement any setting quite perfectly. This requires some hand strength to use scissors to cut ash splint. Students ages 12+ may participate with an adult.
