Blacksmithing & Toolmaking

Forging the Blacksmith’s Knife

Course Overview

The Blacksmith is primarily a tool maker, and every tool maker needs their own handmade knife. The Blacksmith’s Knife describes a fully forged utility blade made out of one piece of steel, including the handle. This classic project is a quintessential landmark for the smith, as it teaches proper material management through forging, grinding, and hardening. Students will grow their skills as blacksmiths and bladesmiths in this course and create a functional, high-performance blade. Though beginning smiths with some skills are welcome, this is not a good fit for a novice student.
