Floor Loom Weaving: Summer and Winter Placemats
Course Overview
Discover the beauty and versatility of Summer and Winter, a classic weave structure known for its bold patterns and rich textural contrasts. In this floor loom weaving class, students will explore the fundamentals of this two-layer block weave, learning how its unique interplay of pattern and ground wefts creates intricate, reversible designs. Well known as a structure used for table linens and coverlets, as there is a distinctly light side for summer use, and a dark side for winter.
Over the course of the class, participants will wind a warp, thread the loom, and weave a sampler to gain confidence in reading drafts, understanding block arrangements, and experimenting with color interactions. Based on the sample results, students will then apply their new skills to create a coordinated set of four handwoven placemats, choosing their own pattern variations within the Summer and Winter framework.
Ideal for confident beginners and intermediate weavers alike, this class offers a supportive environment to deepen technical skills while producing beautiful, functional textiles to take home.
A materials fee of $55 will be payable to the instructor at class time.
This course is open to students ages 16+.
