Woodcarving
Figure Carving: Scandinavian Style, Wood Week Edition
Course Overview
Beginning and experienced carvers will enjoy this opportunity to focus on figures carved in the Scandinavian flat-plane style. Tool sharpening and the history of this carving style will be presented at the start of the course, and the instructor will lead students through an initial figure in step-by-step fashion. Students can then carve an additional piece of their choice with individual assistance from the instructor. Painting, natural oils, and wax finishes will also be covered. For inspiration, the instructor will display 100 or more carved characters students can use as resources. Additional wooden cutouts may be purchased directly from the instructor each day. Cost of each cutout will be approximately $10.
This course will be part of Wood Week. Plan to stay an extra day for the Carvers Conference on Friday, March 14, which features demonstrations, speakers and community gatherings all day, offered as a benefit to students enrolled in Wood Week coursework
