Course Overview

Beginning and experienced carvers will enjoy this opportunity to focus on figure carving. First-time carvers are especially encouraged to sign up for this session, which provides a wonderful introduction to whittling using simple, inexpensive tools that can travel just about anywhere. We will begin with some simple projects to learn the basic techniques. Tool sharpening and the history of carving will be woven through the course with the instructor leading everyone through an initial figure in step-by-step fashion. The figures are then finished with paint. Natural oils or wax finishes will also be covered. Bruce’s easy-going manner and deep well of experience will ensure that everyone progresses as a carver. Youth ages 14+ are welcome to participate with an adult. Students will be able to purchase the projects they’d like to work on directly from the instructor for $15 per blank.

This course is part of Wood Week 2024! Plan to arrive early on Friday, March 15 for a free Carvers Conference day, full of demonstrations, speakers, and community gatherings.
