Basketry
Decorative Ash Basketry
Course Overview
Clyde is a third generation basketmaker from White Earth, Minnesota, who learned to weave black ash from his father, who had realized that the tradition was being lost and learned the craft from his mother-in-law. The intricate baskets have been made and sold for generations in his community. In this course, students will use prepared material to weave a square to round basket with handles. Clyde will bring a variety of dyed black ash for students to use to embellish and personalize their work. Clyde will be joined by Courtney Olson, who has been studying with Clyde to learn these traditions. Students of all levels welcome. Finished basket will stand 10-12” high.
