Fiber Art

Custom Color: Woven Summer Scarves

Course Overview

Dive into the world of color as you dye and weave a one-of-a-kind silk scarf. You’ll paint directly onto your warp and weft yarn using acid dyes, then weave it up into a scarf incorporating Huck lace patterns on four or eight shafts. Learn about how color *really* works from dye-enthusiast Riley Kleve, along with ways to incorporate the skills you learn in class into the rest of your weaving journey. Whether you’re in search of bold, bright colors or more subtle shifts of earthy tones, you’ll have the tools and guidance to create the lightweight scarf of your dreams.

Some weaving experience (intro to floor loom, rigid heddle class, or equivalent) is required. No experience with dyes or color theory is needed, as we’ll cover the basics and beyond in class.

Physical Ability/Skills Needed: Threading a loom requires some hand-eye coordination and dexterity. If you use eyeglasses to improve your close-range vision, make sure to bring them with you to class. You will use your feet while seated to operate a loom in class.

Students ages 16+ may register for this course independently. Youth ages 14+ may register if accompanied by an adult. Adult/child pairs will complete two projects and pay two materials fees. A 25% tuition discount applies to the youth registrant when registering with a full-paying adult; call to register.
