Custom Color: Woven Scarves for Spring or Summer

Course Overview

Dive into the world of color and weaving to create a one-of-a-kind scarf for spring and summer. Students will use acid dyes to paint both warp and weft on silk. They will then weave their custom-dyed yarns into a finished scarf incorporating Bronson or Huck lace patterns on 4 or 8 shafts. Whether it's bold stripes of bright color or more subtle shifts in earthy tones, students will have the tools to help create the scarf of their dreams.

Some weaving experience (intro to floor loom or rigid heddle class or equivalent) is required. Experience dressing a floor loom is helpful but not necessary. No experience with dyes or color theory is required, we’ll cover the basics and beyond in class. The materials fee covers everything you’ll need to dye and weave one silk scarf during class; additional silk or wool warps to dye for future projects will be available for purchase from the instructor for $40.

Students ages 16+ may register for this course independently. Youth ages 14+ may register if accompanied by an adult. Adult/child pairs will complete two projects and pay two materials fees. A 25% tuition discount applies to the youth registrant when registering with a full paying adult; call to register.
