Course Overview

Build a highly functional new table–with a minimal amount of tools–which is perfect for a home office, computer desk, potting table, or anything in between using reclaimed cedar lumber. This class is a great introduction to woodworking and will include instruction in the mystery of story sticks, bit and brace, and hand saws, as well as some power tools. Students can build the desk with zero steel fasteners, with the use of dowel pins to secure joints, or utilize screws and bolts. We will also learn to conserve resources by adding length to pieces with puzzle joints. As time allows, students will have the opportunity to build accessories for the table as well as add their own custom touches. The finished table will measure approximately 54” long x 24” deep x 32” high. The tabletop is 1.5” thick and each leg measures approximately 3”x3” thick. We will also have time to discuss finishes that can be applied at home.

All students are invited to come one day early and spend an extra day milling reclaimed lumber to specific dimensions.  This is a great ‘one day workout’ for anyone wanting experience with power tools (table saw, planer, miter saw and drill press). Please notify North House if you plan to participate.
