Course Overview

In this beginning class, students will learn how to wind a warp, use the back to front method of winding the warp on the floor loom, and learn all the necessary steps for preparing the loom for weaving. During class students will learn the basics of weaving technique while weaving a sampler that will serve as a reference for future projects. After sampling and getting the basic weaving motions down, students will then continue weaving their own project, and can choose from a scarf or a table runner. Class discussions and demonstrations will focus on the basic components of a weaving draft, how to calculate warp and weft, how to plan your first project, available weaving resources for the new weaver, and more. Time will be available to coach individual students on weaving interests and project ideas. Good or corrected vision is helpful for this course.
