Wooden Boat ‘Learn To Sail!’ School

Course Overview

Using North House’s one-of-a-kind wooden sailing fleet, students will learn the basics of sailing, boat handling and seamanship in an environment unlike any other. Spend two and a half days on the Grand Marais Harbor, learning to sail aboard three hand-crafted wooden watercraft including a reconstructed 18’ Great Lakes Mackinaw boat, a 7’7" classic Nutshell Pram and a uniquely designed Phil Bolger 20’ Yawl. The small size of the boats offers an ‘easy to learn’ experience, allowing the student to feel comfortable handling a sailboat for the first time. Students will spend time "dockside" learning the concepts and theory of sailing. Then students put those theories and concepts into practice on the water under the guidance of three sailing instructors who built the boats they use to teach.
