Course
White Oak Basketry
Course Overview
In this intensive six-day basket course, students will learn the whole process of white oak basketry. Starting from the log, students will process their own materials by splitting, cutting, and scraping oak wood splints, transforming it from tree to weavable material. There will be an opportunity to use some natural dyes on the splints to add color to the basket. Once all the material is prepared, students will use a horizontal plain weave to create a sturdy, long lasting basket. The finished basket will measure roughly 5”x10"x6”, with potential for adding a handle. This is a rare, immersive opportunity to work with white oak and learn from a highly respected and accomplished instructor.
