Course Overview

Northern Minnesota, part of a narrow forest belt stretching from New England across the Great Lakes, supports a higher diversity of breeding songbirds than anywhere else in the United States or Canada. This course will provide beginners and experienced birders a chance to learn the songs of these elusive birds, observe them on their breeding territories and discover details about their habits and habitats. The course will be conducted as a series of two back-to-back morning field trips utilizing public trails. The pace will be slow - birding "speed" is about one mile per hour. Participants will check in at North House and car pool to trailhead after a short discussion and introductions (and coffee). Upon completion of the field trip, the group will return to North House for a wrap-up discussion of the day's findings and observations.
