Course
Tracking the Muse: A Writer's Workshop for the Cold Season
Course Overview
For those wishing to hone their descriptive and evocative language skills and make a blizzard of blank white pages come alive with color and scent and sound, this writing workshop is meant to inspire you. Join naturalist, writer, poet, and winter walker Garrett Conover on a quest to court the muse that can liberate individual expression through written storytelling, as well as seek tools and approaches that can hone and refine words into artistically resonant pictures on the page. Together we can help each other make the language flow and dance, and surprise ourselves with beauty and grace. Let’s assume that none of us are content to simply tell, we want every word to sing.
Garrett will lead and facilitate and lend structure to a number of discussions and exercises; but for the most part the workshop format invites participation and collective experience and idea sharing. We will be coaching each other, trying ideas on for size, discerning nuggets of success to be repeated as well as missteps to be avoided. This will require generosity and an open mind; kindness to temper constructive critique; and a willingness to accept encouragement; to share and be vulnerable and bold, all within a safe supportive setting for revealing what our hearts most want to say and show the world through the art of writing.
