Timber framing has been a signature craft of the North House Folk School and part of the campus landscape since the organization's earliest days. To celebrate North House's ten year anniversary and to honor its partner and friend, the City of Grand Marais, this course focuses on handcrafting ten timbered benches that will be placed throughout the City of Grand Marais. Your participation in this service learning course includes timber framing instruction - hands-on experience with traditional and contemporary timber framing tools, layout and joinery techniques, while providing a spirited gift to the city. Once completed, the benches will be spread throughout the city, in parks, playgrounds and on the harbor. Your work will forever be a part of the Grand Marais landscape.
