Swedish Green Woodworking: Intergenerational

Course Overview

With so many 'green woodworking' courses being offered (Norwegian ale bowls, Scandinvian spoons, Swedish krympburkar), we wanted to offer a green woodworking experience exclusively for adults and their children or grandparents and their grandchildren as a way to honor intergenerational learning. Discover what Swedes are doing as early as third grade and learn to carve in the Swedish style to make traditional spoons, butter knives, sauna hooks and/or a cutting board from a birch or aspen log. Split out material from a fresh birch or aspen log and discover the endless possibilities of turning it into a useful object with traditional folk patterns. Safety and proper use of hand tools such as a hand axe, gouge, drawknife, and carving knives will be emphasized. For ages 11 and up!
