Black ash splint and birch wood are widely available across the North and have been put to good use by basket-makers of many cultures for centuries. In this course, students will craft a basket with a unique shape, moving from square to round, and use two classic materials: black ash splint to weave the basket, and birch wood to create rims and handles. Techniques for preparing black ash splint for use will be taught, as well as preparation of birch wood. Two trees, two days, one lovely basket, ready for Easter eggs, berries or anything else you may need a basket for.
