Course
Shaker-Style Carriers
Course Overview
The Shaker-style of bentwood boxes and carriers have been made in the US since the 18th century. Long-appreciated for their beauty and many uses, they are also a fun woodworking project that introduces a variety of skills. In this class, students bend thin strips of cherry wood by soaking, forming, tacking and finishing them into elegant carriers of a variety of sizes. A carrier is simply a box with a handle, and can be put to practical or decorative use. Students will construct two carriers during this three day course.
