Saw, Drill, Plane – Intro to Wooden Toy Building

Course Overview

Give a child a few blocks of wood and some glue, and the magic is sure to happen. Whether a boat or a castle, the result delivers untold satisfaction, both during creation and beyond. This workshop is for adult-child pairs hoping to continue the toy building journey, creating several classic wooden toys while laying a foundation of basic woodworking skills with hand tools. Miter boxes to coping saws, framing squares to block planes, tack hammers to brace/bits – emphasis will be placed on introducing time-tested hand tools and discovering their purpose. Spinning color wheels, whirling tops and tumbling Jacob’s ladders are on the list of possible projects. Applying finish/paint may be possible as time allows. Students are asked to bring their favorite wooden toy for Show & Tell. Once the door to the woodshop is opened, a journey filled with discovery (and toys of all sizes!) awaits ahead. Combined adult child tuition is $131.25/$140 per pair.
