Sashiko ori refers to handweaving designs that are based on the sashiko folk stitching methods of Japan. Basically a supplementary warp and weft technique, students will design and weave a geometric pattern with optional stitching added later. The instructor will bring pre-wound warps for students to beam on and thread with their own designs. This class will challenge experienced weavers with a new way of thinking about warp and weft interlacements and give beginners something fun to explore.

In order to get the most from the class in this limited time, students should be able to understand a weaving draft and the basics of warping a loom.

Physical Ability Note: Floor loom weaving requires some foot flexibility. Good vision is also important.
