Course
Out N' About: Carving Spoons, Butter Knives and Bread Boards in The Scandinavian-Style
Course Overview
North House Folk School is partnering with Minnesota Woods Campaign and the Goods From The Woods initiative to offer this course at Ruttger's Sugar Lake Lodge in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. This select forest-based course, taught by North House woodcarving instructor Jon Strom, is being offered in conjunction with the 'Up North' Marketplace & Green Living Celebration.
In this 'out n' about' course, students work with traditional hand carving tools learning to carve Swedish-styled butter knives, small spoons or bread boards from freshly harvested birch wood - the hardwood of the northwoods. No experience necessary, but woodcarvers of all levels are welcome to learn the Scandinavian-influenced traditions of carving with birch. A great opportunity to make your own "goods from Minnesota's northwoods."
