Course
Nutshell Prams for the Weekend Builder: Joint Ownership
Course Overview
In this new variation on the popular nutshell pram course, three participants together will build one 7'7" nutshell pram, including sail, spars and oars over a series of three weekends. Once complete, the boat will be housed on the North House campus for three years (until 2015), and available for use in the Grand Marais Harbor by the three owners exclusively. At the end of the three years, one owner may “buy out” the other two owners and take the boat home, or the boat will be sold with the profits divided by the owners, reimbursing them for a portion of their original materials fee.
The Joel White designed nutshell pram is one of the most frequently built small wooden boats. It rows beautifully, sails very well, and makes an excellent tender for a larger boat. Construction materials include high quality marine grade plywood hull, spruce spars, white oak guard rails, Douglas fir laminates, and bronze hardware and fastenings. Always curious about boat building, but not sure you’re ready to be the permanent owner of a boat? This is your chance. Participants will sign a letter of agreement outlining the terms of this arrangement.
