Course Overview

Calling all weavers, beginner, advanced or otherwise! No matter your skill level as a weaver, choosing materials for your piece is always an exciting part of starting a new project. In this one day workshop, you'll learn to use plants to dye a variety of fibers and materials for weaving projects. Natural plant materials have been used for centuries to color fibers, paintings and bodies! We'll cover mordants, how to grow your own dye plants, gathering in the wild, and the best way to store plant materials for future use. Students will use natural plant dyes to color their warps and wefts. We will dye some novelty yarns (bamboo, mohair, flax, soy, and silk) and unconventional materials (raffia, pina cloth, ribbon, feathers, etc.) for use in weft-face projects and as embellishment. Take home a bundle of inspiring materials for your next project.
