Course

Making Cordage, Naturally

Course Overview

Explore the possibilities of harvesting the right grasses, barks and natural wools to make rope that is both utilitarian and a remarkable testament to the strength of nature’s fibers. In this one day course, you will work at a relaxed pace transforming grasses, nettles, sedges, barks and wool into rope using two-ply cordage and spinning techniques. What to do with the rope? That's the fun part. How about a bow string? A belt? Kite string? A rope to line your canoe? Depending on the materials chosen, your 'practical' rope projects may include wrapping a ceramic waterjug, making a rope coil basket or making a bridle bit for horses.
