North House Folk School welcomes world-renowned Inuit sculptor Palaya Qiatsaq from Cape Dorset in the high Canadian Arctic for this hands-on soapstone sculpting workshop. Palaya considers it an artist’s responsibility to preserve and record the oral history, lifestyle and legends of a culture and does so with his shamanistic-inspired sculptures. Under his instruction and tutelage you will carve interpretations of the Arctic landscape and Inuit culture while learning the techniques and traditions of soapstone carving.
