Using locally sourced materials, craft a truly “Grand Marais” pendant necklace. Students will learn to make the sailor's ocean braid also known, also known as the prosperity knot, using easy-to-work-with colorful cord more commonly seen on outdoor camping gear such as tents. Add a locally hand-crafted glass pendant (several will be available to choose from) and a lashed miniature carabiner closure and the result is a unique piece that reflects the character and experience of America's Coolest Small Town. Materials for a second necklace (completed in class as time allows), as well as detailed handouts for replicating this project at home are included in the materials fee.
