Fall birding deep in the boreal forest on the edge of the Boundary Waters offers a tremendous time to spot neo-tropical migrants during the peak of migration. Held at historic Gunflint Lodge, this unique offering will immerse students in the pristine wilderness of the Gunflint Trail with esteemed Minnesota birder Bob Janssen. Students will spend their time looking for migrant warblers, vireos, flycatchers and thrushes that will be passing through the neighborhood and well as the boreal species commonly found in this habitat, including crossbills, black back woodpeckers, ravens and boreal chickadees. Based out of Gunflint Lodge, this course will allow students to explore the end of the trail area with a comfortable home base.

A variety of lodging options are available to students at special rates at Gunflint Lodge, though students are welcome to stay wherever they choose during the class. The schedule includes two evening gatherings at Gunflint Lodge as well. Students are responsible for their own lodging reservations and do not have to stay at Gunflint Lodge to participate in this course.
