Course Overview

Discover the artistry of double weave in this immersive 3-day course. Delve into the intricate techniques that bring depth and dimension to woven textiles as you learn to manipulate two layers of fabric simultaneously. From understanding the fundamentals of double weave structure to experimenting with different patterns and designs, participants will gain experience at every step. You'll explore the creative possibilities of this versatile technique, mastering how to create pockets, tubes, and even reversible fabrics. Whether you're a novice weaver or seasoned textile enthusiast, this workshop offers a stimulating environment to expand your skills and creativity. By the end of the course, you'll leave with a deeper understanding of double weave principles and a collection of woven samples that showcase your newfound expertise.

Previous beginning weaving experience is required. Students will warp a loom and will create a sample that experiments with several different double weave techniques. After sampling, students will create one or more handwoven drawstring bags utilizing the tubular technique. Perfect for bread bags!

A materials fee of $45-65, depending on material choice, will be payable to the instructor at class time. Students will have the opportunity to select from cotton, cottolin (60% cotton/40% linen) or linen for their materials.

Students ages 16+ may register for this course. Students should be able to sit for long durations and manage the physicality of threading a floor loom.
