Crazy Quilting

Course Overview

The craft of crazy quilting is enjoying a resurgence in popularity these days. Crazy quilting is a colorful conglomeration of assorted fabrics - usually silks, brocades and velvets - which is embellished with hand embroidered seams. Its rich history reflects early colonialists' ingenuity and resourcefulness, employing recycled and reused scraps of fabric to create a coveted artistic and skillful form of needlework. In this course, students will hand stitch together a block using either their favorite recycled fabrics or a wide variety of colorful fabrics brought by the instructor and learn a variety of hand stitches and other embellishments to create a memorable and useful pillow. Past students have incorporated their childhood blankets, favorite wools, even bits of a wedding dress!
