Course
Crafting Knives in the Finnish Style
Course Overview
The knife (or puukko) has always been an important part of Finnish cultural identity. The traditional Finnish puukko is a blending of beauty and functionality that developed over hundreds of years, and some of the finest knives in the world have been crafted in this region. The individual knifesmith, however, has virtually disappeared. This workshop explores the traditional methods and materials of construction used by the few remaining knifesmiths to craft objects of both beauty and function. You will be provided with all materials and tools necessary to complete two projects that illustrate the difference between a production-made knife and one crafted entirely by hand.
