Course
Breeding Bird Atlas Project (Service Learning)
Course Overview
Did you ever wish you were a Citizen Scientist? This may be your big chance! Participants in this Service Learning session will be part of the Minnesota Breeding Bird Atlas project. Started in 2009, the MNBBA is a five-year effort that will survey blocks throughout the state for breeding status of the region’s bird species. Datasets gathered by the project will be used on a state-wide and national level, generating range maps and an atlas of Minnesota breeding birds. Learning about the data-collecting protocols and preparing with maps and information about the survey area is the first step. Time in the field will be led by experienced birders on pre-scouted routes to defined Cook County priority blocks. Individuals unable to stay for the second day are invited to only be part of the first day of the session.
