Spring brings millions of migratory birds as they seek a suitable habitat for breeding and, ultimately, recruitment into future generations. The boreal forest habitat of the Gunflint Trail is home to a great diversity of bird species, making it perfect for this two-day workshop. As you hike in a variety of habitats, you learn bird identification by sight and sound. Day 1 will feature a trip to the end of the Gunflint Trail, and guided tour of the Chik-Wauk Museum and Nature Center, which has been home to nesting loons easily viewed from a safe distance in years past. This course is part of the Boreal Birding and Northern Landscapes Festival. Materials fee covers van transportation (first day only, carpool day two), lunch served up the trail (on day #1), admission to the Chik-Wauk Museum, and morning refreshments for festival participants.
