Course
Birch Bark Harvest Service Learning Project
Course Overview
Plans for 2019 include the raising of a traditional structure with a sod roof. A sod roof requires a birch bark liner, which means the bark needs to be harvested a year in advance. Learn about the safe, legal and sustainable harvest of birch bark in this service learning course. Students should be able to bushwhack one mile into the woods while carrying 50lbs and being gnawed on by mosquitoes. Bring your own lunch and plenty of water. After participating in a training session on either July 11 or 12, students are invited to help on 7/12, 7/13, and 7/14 for no additional tuition.
NOTE: This class is closed to online registration, but you can still sign up by calling North House at 218-387-9762. No tuition will be charged.
