Course Overview

Connect with centuries of tradition through the art of shibori in this hands-on workshop!  We’ll be exploring the Japanese art of shibori, a manual resist dyeing technique that involves folding, twisting, and binding fabric in a myriad of ways to create unique visual textures with indigo dye. We’ll be setting up an organic indigo vat as well as spending time preparing our materials using various techniques before dyeing them. By the end of day two, students will leave this course with the skills to set up an indigo vat, prepare materials, and the knowledge to use various shibori techniques to create a wide array of unique designs.

All levels of experience are welcome! Students should expect to spend a fair amount of time on their feet, and in a crouched or bent position intermittently. Students 16+ are welcome to sign up for this course. Youth 12+ may attend if accompanied by an adult. A 25% tuition discount applies to the youth registrant when registering with a full paying adult; call to register. Adult/child pairs will complete two projects and two materials fees.
