Fiber Art
Beginning Floor Loom Weaving
Course Overview
In this beginning class, students will learn how to wind a warp, use the back-to-front method of winding the warp on the floor loom, and follow all the necessary steps for preparing the loom for weaving. Students will learn the basics of weaving technique while weaving a sampler that will serve as a reference for future projects. After sampling and mastering the basic weaving motions, students will continue weaving their own project: either a scarf or a table runner. Class discussions and demonstrations will focus on the basic components of a weaving draft, how to calculate warp and weft, and how to plan your first project. THe course will explore weaving resources for the new weaver and more. Time will be available to coach individual students on weaving interests and project ideas. This class requires good eyesight to see fine detail. Vision aids welcome.
