Exploring Woven Structures
Course Overview
If you have ever wanted to explore woven structures beyond plain weave and twill, this is the workshop you’ve been waiting for. This immersive three-day workshop is designed for beginner to intermediate weavers who want to deepen their understanding of woven structures. Students will explore eight diverse woven structures for 4 and 8-harness looms and their applications while building confidence in analyzing, interpreting, and executing weaving patterns from drafts. At the end of the workshop, students will have a collection of fabric swatches to use as a reference library or incorporate into future projects. This workshop is ideal for beginner and intermediate weavers who want to expand their technical skills and build a tangible reference for future designs. Weave structures will include options from waffle weave, honeycomb, overshot, huck lace, log cabin, integrated cell, and more. Students will each thread one loom, and then rotate between the looms to create their samples. A materials fee of $55 will be payable to instructor at class time.
Students ages 16+ may register for this course. Students should be able to sit for long durations and manage the physicality of threading a floor loom.
