Jack's passion for boats and woodworking started when he was 12 years old. When he began making half-hulls, he worked from plans. Now, he takes line drawings off any boat hull that offers a beautiful form or an interesting construction detail and transforms them into half-hull templates. Typically he constructs the half-hulls in mahogany and basswood using the waterline-lift method. In 2001, Jack completed an 11-foot scale replica of Joshua Slocum's boat "Spray" (the first boat to be sailed single-handed around the world, in 1896).
