Course Overview

Join us to create the perfect sock yarn and the perfect socks!  There is nothing like hand-spun, hand-knit socks to give your feet a hug and to keep you snuggy warm and feeling good! The first day of this workshop will be spent spinning for your socks.  We will discuss different appropriate fibers and techniques for achieving optimum success. Spinning for socks is a bit different from regular spinning because you have to put in more twist, but not too much twist. You have to add something for strength, but not too much so that it feels synthetic.  You have to spin pretty fine, but not too fine. This class will deal with deal with these issues so that you can get the perfect yarn for the most comfortable socks you’ve ever worn, and have them last for years and years!

On the second day, we will begin knitting our socks.  You will learn all the parts of a sock, how to do a heel flap, turn the heel, do a heel gusset, decrease for the toe, and graft the toe.  (Yes, all in one day!)  The class will include all materials needed for spinning a pair of socks and a knitting kit so we can begin.  The kit includes yarn for a pair of socks and a pattern for Basic Socks.  If you are a spinner and have never knit socks, this is the pattern for you!  If you are an experienced sock knitter, this pattern will allow you to make your own embellishments easily.
