Nord Hus | A 4-Month, 4,500-Nautical-Mile Arctic Primer

What begins in the icy headwaters of Lake Superior leads to the Arctic Circle and beyond. Sail with us through the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence, adapt to 19-foot tides and 7-knot currents, skirt the rugged Québec North Shore, and cross the iceberg-filled Labrador Sea before entering Greenland’s towering glacial fjords.

With tough choices, a near-sinking ship, whale escorts, and starry nights that faded to midnight sun, this is the story of a crew making their way to the edge of the map.

PASCALE MARCEAU is an explorer, mountaineer, and risk consultant based in the Canadian Rockies and Grand Marais. With more than 20 years of remote, cold-weather expeditions—from high peaks to high latitudes—she now brings her expedition experience to the world of high-latitude sailing.

ASHE BERTON is a spirited sailor with deep roots in both the ocean and the Great Lakes. Drawn by the freedom of open water and the brilliance of midnight stars, she began sailing as a young girl with her grandfather and later lived aboard a friend’s sailboat in Europe. Her experience spans international racing, skippering charters, a trans-Atlantic crossing, and a northbound Pacific passage from New Zealand to Japan.

LONNIE DUPRE has spent his life exploring the farthest reaches of the North. His passion for the Arctic has naturally evolved into high-latitude sailing aboard his 36-foot steel sailboat. Departing from his hometown of Grand Marais and reaching the Arctic under sail is the realization of a lifelong dream.
