Solar Hot Water Systems - Get The Heat
This course may really get you into hot water! Solar hot water is one of the most cost effective techniques for putting the sun’s energy to work minimizing household energy consumption. This course offers both hands-on installation experience as well as classroom-based discussions of system design and theory to get you up and running. For fall 2010, students will have the opportunity for hands-on involvement with a 4+ panel domestic hot water project next door to North House's campus at the Grand Marais Rec Park. Students will learn to identify solar water heating system components and describe their functions, compare and contrast solar domestic hot water system types with specific reference to freeze protection, components, best use, performance, efficiency, complexity, cost, and longevity, conduct a domestic hot water load analysis, outline the procedure for appropriate siting and sizing of a solar domestic hot water system. The sun’s shining – get the heat!
